Liana Cercel, a Romanian national, is an attorney admitted to practice in the State of New York specialised in transnational arbitration and dispute settlement.

Experience in Arbitration

Liana Cercel is an associate at Armesto & Asociados, a boutique of arbitrators with an international and independent profile and a good business sense, founded by Juan Fernández-Armesto.

Liana joined Armesto & Asociados in 2022, where she acts as secretary and assistant to arbitral tribunals in arbitration proceedings, including international, ad hoc and administered arbitrations involving both commercial and investment disputes. Most of the cases are administered by ICC, ICSID, PCA and Spanish or Latin America arbitral institutions. As to ad hoc arbitrations, most of them are subject to the UNCITRAL Rules.

Before joining Armesto & Asociados, Liana Cercel trained for two and a half years with the international arbitration teams of Clifford Chance, Dechert, Eversheds Sutherland and Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, in Paris.

Professional Experience

From 2018 to 2019, Liana spent a year as Trainee in the Clifford Chance international arbitration team in Paris. From 2019 to 2020, she worked as a Law Clerk at Dechert and as an International Arbitration and Public International Law Trainee at Eversheds Sutherland. In 2021, she interned in the Paris office of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, working in the international arbitration department. Throughout her training,

Previously, Liana worked as an intern and subsequently a consultant for a London-based due diligence company specialising in investigations and evidence gathering supporting multi-national transactions and disputes.


Liana Cercel holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Law (LL.B.) from City, University of London (2014-2017) with a concentration on international law modules. During her undergrad, Liana completed an exchange program at the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po) in Paris focusing on public international law, economics, and political studies.

Liana Cercel also holds a Master’s degree (LL.M.) from Sciences Po (Paris, France), with a specialisation in Transnational Arbitration and Dispute Settlement, obtained in 2018.
