Thomas James Biscomb


Thomas James Biscomb is a Uruguayan and British national, trained as a lawyer in Uruguay, specialised in commercial law and international arbitration.

Experience in Arbitration

In 2021, Thomas James Biscomb joined Armesto & Asociados, a firm of arbitrators founded by Juan Fernández-Armesto. Thomas is in charge of supporting a number of international arbitration proceedings in both commercial and investment disputes.

Before joining Armesto & Asociados, Thomas was an intern at the Madrid International Arbitration Centre, assisting with the administration of arbitration proceedings submitted under the Rules of the Centre. Thomas was also part of Ferrere Abogados, were he gained experience in international commercial arbitration.

He has participated in several international arbitration academic competitions and was lecturer of international arbitration at the University of Montevideo, Uruguay.

Professional Experience

Between 2019 and 2020, Thomas worked as Legal Advisor at Sura Asset Management, where he gained extensive experience in the structuring of investment funds and project finance.

Additionally, he has worked as in-house Commercial Counsel at Altisource Portfolio Solutions.

Previously, Thomas was part of the Litigation and Arbitration department at Ferrere Abogados.


Thomas holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Montevideo, Uruguay, obtained in 2017. In the course of his Bachelor’s degree, Thomas participated in the Willem C. Vis Moot, the FDI Moot and the Competencia Internacional de Arbitraje Comercial, obtaining the 2nd Place in the 2018 FDI Moot and the 3rd Place in the 2017 Willem C. Vis Moot.

In acknowledgement of these achievements, Thomas has been recognized by the Arbitration and Conciliation Centre of Uruguay for his contributions to the development of arbitration in Uruguay.

Thomas also holds a Master’s degree in International Advocacy with distinction in dispute resolution from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, obtained in 2021, for which he was granted the Extraordinary Prize for obtaining the highest GPA in his class.
