Bianca McDonnell is a lawyer in Australia and is eligible for admission in New York. She specialises in international arbitration and public international law.


Summary

Bianca McDonnell joined Armesto & Asociados in 2017 to work in a team with founding partner Juan Fernández-Armesto. Bianca participates in investment and international commercial arbitration proceedings, on cases administrated by ICSID or the ICC, and ad hoc proceedings under the UNCITRAL Rules.

Bianca graduated from Georgetown Law’s Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Legal Studies with a Certificate in International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution on the Dean’s Merit List and with Distinction.


Professional Experience

In addition to working at Armesto & Asociados, Bianca is sponsored by the United States Department of Commerce’s Commercial Law Development Program to train the Sri Lankan Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration moot teams. During her LL.M., Bianca completed a part-time externship at Three Crowns LLP’s Washington D.C. office for a period of three months. She additionally worked as a clerk for Judge Carmel Agius, President of the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, for a period of six months.

Whilst completing her law degree in Sydney, Bianca clerked for barrister Tania Evers, at Frederick Jordan Chambers for a year, and gained experience at various law firms such as Sparke Helmore Lawyers. She additionally completed a three-month internship at Human Rights Watch.


Education

Bianca graduated at the top of her class at Georgetown, attaining a GPA of 3.97/4.00. She was the Co-President and Founder of the United Nations Association – Georgetown Law, and was an LL.M. Editor of the Georgetown Journal of International Law. Bianca represented Georgetown at the Vis Moot Competition in Vienna, and went on to act as arbitrator in Hong Kong in 2018.

Bianca graduated with First Class Honours from her Bachelor of Laws at the University of Technology, Sydney. She received a High Distinction for her research honours thesis on: ‘Establishing the Individual Criminal Responsibility for International Crimes Perpetrated by Members of ISIL in Syria and Iraq.’ She was appointed by faculty as a judge of the Student Misconduct and Appeals Committee, volunteered with Anti-Slavery Australia, and participated in various moot court competitions. Bianca additionally completed an exchange program at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan.

Bianca completed her Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice and is admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales. She has also passed the New York bar.
